Beware Your Toilet Could Kill Your Dog!

Everyone likes to drink out of something clean, but would you drink from a cup that recently contained hydrochloric acid or hypochlorite bleach in it? Your answer should be no! In fact, I’d venture to say it’s common sense to avoid drinking even trace-amounts of acids or bleaches. But exposure to these harmful chemicals is exactly what your dog risks every time you leave the toilet lid up. I don’t care how dignified you think your dog is, every once in a while your pooch is dipping his muzzle into your toilet.

Bathrooms and especially toilets are havens for germs and bacteria to gather. To neutralize the germs and bacteria the average toilet cleaner utilizes a combination of hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite bleach. These chemicals are powerful. Not only do they get your toilet sparkling clean they also can cause a variety of health problems for your pets.

The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) warns us about these chemicals: Exposure to hydrochloric acid can cause irritation to the skin and eyes and may damage your pet’s kidneys and liver. Exposure to hypochlorite bleach can burn the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. If ingested these chemicals can cause pulmonary edema, vomiting, or coma. Things get even more grim if two cleaners inadvertently mix, because they can react and create chlorine, which is extremely fatal.
I’m not suggesting you stop cleaning your bathroom toilet. That would be gross! Get that out of your head, but wouldn’t it be great if there was a environmentally responsible and pet-friendly alternative for cleaning. I know bathrooms necessitate heavy cleaning, but it’s not necessary for heavy cleaning to mean harmful chemicals.

I love my dogs, Rusty and Sadie and don’t like exposing them to unnecessary risks. I use and recommend Toilet Kleener an all natural cleaning product that is safe for animals. Plus it won’t harm the environment and leaves toilets sparking clean. Toilet Kleener is free from phosphates, chlorine, petroleum and other chemicals and works great at combating those stubborn hard water stains. Keep your toilets clean, banish those dangerous chemicals and gain some piece of mind.

  1. OMG! I had no idea how dangerous drinking out of the toilet could be! Bleach + ACID = Bad Day.

  2. So does that mean you will quit drinking out of the toilet bowl, Chris?

My daughter did a study in high school about water and found that the toilet bowl water was cleaner than the water at the 1-mile swimming hole in Bidwell Park… I don’t swim there any more…

  3. Nope, Kelley just found a safer cleaning product that won’t make me sick… But she still won’t give me any kisses on the lips. :(
